Satay Edit page

From Singapore Hotels & Singapore Lifestyle

Satay is definitely one of the favourite Singapore Cuisine from the Malay Community. These are small bamboo skewers of marinated meat which are grilled over coals and served with sliced onion, cucumber, Ketupat (compressed rice cakes) and peanut sauce.

Satay

There are many types of satay, with chicken being the most popular in Singapore. Other variants are mutton and pork (sold only by Chinese Hawkers). The mutton satay is tougher than the pork and chicken satay.

The meat is marinated with tumeric (which gives it the distinct yellow pages) and other spices. Some fats are also placed on the skewers to give that added sweetness to the meat when it is grilled on the charcoal furnace.

Satay is often served with ketupat, cucumber and onion. And the most important, of all is the satay sauce.

The main ingredient of making the satay sauce is peanuts and other spices . The peanuts are roasted and grounded before they are used to make the sauce.

A good satay has to go very well with the satay sauce. The barbequed fats and meat mixed together with the satay sauce would make you begging for more. The best way to have satay is to dine al fresco and with a group of friends. Eating satay with a cold drink and having a chat with your close friends would be a real enjoyment!
