Nagore Durgha Shrine

Not far from the Thian Hock Keng Temple on Telok Ayer Street is the Nagore Durgha Shrine, also called Masjid Chulia, an architectural companion to the mosque on South Bridge Road. The shrine, built in 1830, is an interesting marriage of the classical style typified by moulded arches with Indian Muslim motifs such as the perforated grilles at roof level. The shrine, which also combines Western architectural elements like Doric columns and Palladian doors is unfortunately currently closed for renovations.
