Central Fire Station
From Singapore Hotels & Singapore Lifestyle
|
Central Fire Station, the old red and white headquarteres of the Singapore Fire Brigade, is another architectural gem of a building. This distinctive red and white "blood and bandage" building was completed in 1909 and is typical of the architecture of Edwardian England, a departure from the usual Palladian and classical styles prevailing in Singapore at the time. The "blood" is exposed brick while the "bandage" refers to brick that has been covered in whitewashed plaster.
