Bugis Street

From Beach Road, head towards Rochor Road to reach the spruced up Bugis Street. Arguably Singapore's most famous (or infamous) attraction until it was demolished some years back to make way for an underground station, some of the old Bugis Street attractions are back in the new guise as Bugis Village.
Known for its delicious street food, spontaneous entertainment and uninhibited transvestites in days gone by, the resurrected Bugis lies on the western edge of Kampong Glam, at the corner of Rochor Road and Victoria Street. The old shophouses have been restored and some of the original hawkers have returned to peddle Chinese and Malay food again. Rows of tightly packed stalls hawking ethnic and street wear, bags, watches and snacks contribute to a bazaar-like atmosphere. The colourful transvestite shows, unfortunately, are no longer found.
The complex across from Bugis Village is Bugis Junction, Singapore's first glass-covered air-conditioned shopping street populated with trendy boutiques, eateries and terrace cafes. The charming Intercontinental Hotel is just next door.
